Mexican Gothic, the New York Times bestseller by Silvia Moreno-Garcia elicits strong reviews like the one above by LaValle. The story is truly moody and spooky!
This is not Moreno-Garcia’s first public sighting. She’s been around the literary block, but you may not have encountered the intense writing skill of this Latinx author. Her other award-winning titles include Gods of Jade and Shadow, Signal to Noise, Certain Dark Things, and The Beautiful Ones.
“It’s as if a supernatural power compels us to turn the pages of the gripping Mexican Gothic.”—The Washington Post
Adult readers and older students will enjoy the world created by Moreno-Garcia and experience a blend of cultures and imagination in this thrilling fiction. The main character is a sleuth, but in no way related to Nancy Drew. She is a glamours debutant whose social skills will amuse many a reader, until she must struggle to stay alive.
Diverse Voices - Bravo! introduces you to a variety of Latinx authors. Each week you will have something new to consider for your reading list, library, and classroom. Expand your awareness and appreciation of the many points of view in modern literature.

I've wanted to read this book, but I don't like horror. I did read The Hacienda by Isabel Cañas but that was more supernatural suspense.
sounds like a fun read.
