Marta Alvarez is an award-winning author and children´s book illustrator living in Coruña, Spain. https://www.martalvarez.com/ She began her art explorations by making doodles in the margins of books she read. Teachers reprimanded her scrawls, but her method of making a story come to life has illuminated books for millions of children.
“…Marta helps empower girls with bold and beautiful illustrations in books about the strong girls of yesterday, today, and tomorrow.”
School Library Journal
Writers often overlook the value of book illustrators and the contribution they make to the learning process. Marta’s work is an open invitation to a child, or a new reader, to open a book. It is a promise that there is something of value in the midst of all those printed words. Her work has been widely recognized by industry professionals.
In 2007 her artwork was selected and exhibited at the Bratislava Biennial of Illustration (BIB). She illustrated "Shark Lady: The True Story of How Eugenie Clark Became the Ocean´s Most Fearless Scientist", which was named one of the Best Children´s Books of 2017 by Parents Magazine and won the Blue Spruce Award in 2018. She also painted the funny and charming illustrations of "What is Poo?", which won the Silver Award at the Junior Design Awards 2017.

I love children's books that speak to female inventors, scientists, or any STEAM topic. I can see why the book and illustrations won a major award.
@Anita Perez Ferguson ... I want to read "Shark Lady: The True Story of How Eugenie Clark Became the Ocean´s Most Fearless Scientist" ... that sounds like a great story and someone to know more about. Thank you for sharing ... I would never know about these books if you weren't dedicating your time to Diverse Voices.
